Kubernetes Security is Impossible: You Should Probably Give Up Now

Abstract:

What do security, compliance and Kubernetes all have in common? Complex and challenging. And then you add all of us (humans) into the mix and it becomes impossible to overcome. Right? Join us for a session about how to enable zero-trust controls in Kubernetes, that work for you instead of you working for the tools. And, how to break the cycle of just throwing more tools at the problem.

Three Takeaways for the Audience:

  • Security involves everybody. Yes, you’ve heard that before, but let’s get our arms around how.
  • Tools should work for you, you should not work for the tools.
  • Apply defense-in-depth strategies; consider critical layers.

Bonus: Kubernetes doesn’t have to be a black box to security and compliance orgs

Speakers

Jorn Knuttila

Sr. Domain Solution Architect, SUSE

Jorn is a bearded, bumbling Nordic geek from the frozen tundra surrounding Minneapolis, MN (a suburb of Canada, doncha know!) playing Solution Engineer at NeuVector by SUSE. Understanding the business behind the technology makes Jorn a uniquely qualified guide to the container security journey. With over 30 years in IT, at industry leaders like IBM, Rundeck, CenturyLink and Savvis, and experience as a practitioner, Jorn has lots of stories about ruining things on the Internet before there even was an Internet, uphill both ways, in the snow. After many years doing really big things at really big companies, he's disturbingly excited about being a part of the awesomeness that is Suse. Ask him why.
